Extravagance is totally at home in today’s hotel bath spaces, with amenities that attract high-end travelers. Upscale hotels strive to offer features that are new and different, introducing rainforest showers, mirrors with embedded TVs and aromatherapy and chromatherapy to heighten the bath experience. “Designers are not skimping on amenities because travelers want to relax and be pampered at the end of the day,” says Dori Kallweit, National Specification Manager for MTI Baths. The bathroom has become a spa-like sanctuary which makes a statement and offers high-level performance to meet guests’ expectations. It often plays an essential role in the marketing of hotels by transforming the bath into a comfortable retreat.
With global travel, there’s a whole new set of standards. Bathrooms are a big part of the customer experience notes Kallweit, and architects and designers are responding in a number of ways.
Freestanding tub as centerpiece of the bath. One of the trends receiving a lot of attention is the freestanding tub. It is more prominent and available in striking shapes and luxurious materials. Designers are creating spaces that position this tub as the centerpiece of the bath. Many can also be plumbed as an air bath.
The freestanding MTI Versailles tub shown here exudes elegance with bold rolled edges and soft curved sides. It is ergonomic with softly curved backrests for comfort.
Organic materials add luxury. Hotels are setting themselves apart from their competitors with the use of luxury looks and materials. MTI Bath’s exclusive Engineered Solid Stone® (ESS), which is a mixture of ground minerals and high performance resins that are liquefied, poured and then hardened to create the tub, is becoming more popular among hotel designers because of its durability, upscale appearance and organic feel. It is the material used in all tubs, sinks and shower bases in MTI’s Boutique Collection. Boutique Collection shower bases feature a concealed drain for clean design and uncluttered appearance. MTI can create a shower pan for the exact location that is needed.
Complementary designs. As hotels focus more and more on luxury, they are featuring artistically or unusually designed tubs that “wow” the bath space, augmented by sinks that either mimic or complement the style of the tub.
No boundaries.“What’s the point of having a fabulous tub only to hide it away? Many hotel bathrooms have tubs or showers with windows, glass walls or peekaboo screens, looking out to the landscape or even into the room. Others are putting the tubs in a wet room environment, where the tub is located inside of the shower, as was done at the Palomar in Phoenix, Arizona.
Hi-tech customization. Technology is embraced by designers who want to provide hotel guests with the ultimate in pampering. And hotel designers are sparing no expense, bringing the transformative power of music and color into the bath tub itself to foster a feeling of serenity.
Electric Mirror has taken its bathroom mirror with embed TV screen to the next level by integrating Bluetooth® connectivity that allows playback from a synchronized device through transducer speakers built into the mirror. MTI’s Stereo H2O® transforms the tub itself into an acoustic sounding board to let you hear and feel the music through the water. Underwater LED lighting provides the soothing effects of chromatherapy. And MTI even offers heated bath tub interiors with its Radiance® heating system to enhance relaxation.
Keeping it clean. Guests want pampering that comes along with a hygienic bath experience. Superior clean whirlpool and air bath systems are a must-have as tubs are designed for quick cleaning by Housekeeping.
MTI offers its patented Fill-Flush® and Simple Touch® cleaning systems, the only ones that will completely and thoroughly clean the entire whirlpool plumbing system, and they do this in less than 5 minutes and with less than 10 gallons of water. And MTI air bath systems offer features such as proprietary jet housings with built-in check valves and automatic purge cycle that will ensure that guests enjoy a sanitary and fresh air bath every time.
Sinks offer infinite options. Undermount, vessel-style or semi-recessed, sinks offer more choices in style, size, materials and finishes. While the vessel sink – which sits on top of the vanity – has been very popular, an emerging trend is toward the semi-recessed sink. This style sink allows only the top portion of the sink to be visible, creating a minimalist appearance and yet allowing the sink’s design contours to create interest and complement the styling of the tub.
One of MTI’s most recent introductions is the “Counter-Sink™”. This integral sink and counter top are manufactured in MTI’s Engineered Solid Stone and present a very clean, contemporary design. The Counter-Sink will be available in a variety of bowl shapes, and the sink or sinks can be positioned in various ways, whether centered or offset to the right or left. The Wymara Double Counter-Sink shown here features an oversized bowl and a concealed drain.
Accents add warmth and convenience. MTI’s Genuine Teak Shower Seat creates a spa-like feel, emits a very pleasant slight teak aroma and offers an organic design combined with warmth, texture and interest. Since teak is perfectly at home in wet environments, this shower seat may be used both inside and outside the shower. Bath mats, sink trays and shower trays are also available in teak.
Bath accents combine both form and function, designed to create a unique look and offer convenience to the hotel guest. Creatively shaped pieces such as MTI Baths’ Tub Table — debuting at HD Expo — adds a modern stylish look to the space and adds convenience for long soaks in the tub.
